About Mitchell's Cafe

Mitchell’s Café was established in 1996 at its current location, which was once the first official RCMP barracks in Fort McMurray. The original owners were former RCMP officers who had a son named Mitchell, hence the name Mitchell’s Cafe was born! Since then, the café has worn many hats, including serving as a picture framing shop, gift shop, fine dining restaurant, and butcher counter. It has seen changes in seating arrangements but has always maintained three constants: great food, great coffee, and great service. Today, Mitchell’s is family-owned, and with our hardworking crew, local-minded relationships, and a fresh facelift, we are excited about the future of our historic café.

When you visit, you’ll see our Nuova Simonelli Aurelia II Espresso Machine, the crown jewel for our espresso-based drinks. We serve freshly roasted beans from Discovery Coffee in Victoria, B.C., and also feature beans from various roasters around B.C. and Alberta. Want to take some beans home? We can grind them for you if needed.

We offer homemade baked goods, from muffins and scones to dessert squares and cakes, all baked fresh in-store.

Now, to what we are famous for: our delicious sandwiches, made with our signature homemade Sunshine bread! Our meats are smoked locally at "The Meat Shoppe" in Thickwood or roasted in-house (except the Quattro – we leave that to the Italians). We also have fantastic salad options, and our soup offerings change daily. From classic cream of tomato basil to pork belly pho, and from gluten-free and vegan to carnivorous, we aim to satisfy everyone. Our helpful staff are available to guide you through our sandwiches or you can check the menu to get an idea of what we offer.
